Head of Legal Research

Cecilia Barral Diego is an expert in international human rights law and heads our legal research team.

Cecilia’s work focuses mainly on the assessment and set-up of human rights due diligence processes for companies, including human rights impact assessments and risk assessments and the development of policies and measures aligned with international standards and best practices. She is also our focal point for all regulatory developments on business and human rights.

Her advisory work encompasses both German and international companies from different sectors, such as textile, food, and energy. She is also involved in our think-tank work through the development of knowledge papers. In addition, she is a founding member and the former vice-chair of Finance and Human Rights.

Cecilia is a law graduate and holds an LL.M in International and European Law with a focus on human rights law from the University of Amsterdam. She has gained experience in different international settings, such as the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) at the European Parliament in Brussels, the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) in London, the Human Rights Office of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Madrid and the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) in Washington D.C.

Cecilia is a native speaker of Spanish, fluent in English and Italian and conversational in German.
